Shower & Colors of the RainBOW

Blood work came back normal - yay! My next appointment is Tuesday afternoon so I'll have another update for you then. I think I've been having Braxton Hicks the last couple of days. Right now I've got my feet up and I'm watching a chick flick on Netflix instant watch. We're getting rid of Netflix this month and I think I'm going to miss it. Especially since I'm off work until the baby's born. But hopefully I'll have more important things to occupy my time...or at least more demanding things, like cleaning or reorganizing my pantry.

A good friend of David's from high school wanted to throw us a baby shower, so she invited a few friends of David's from high school/college that we get together with regularly. It was sooo nice - she did a really amazing job planning everything. She thought it would be nice to have it at our house so people could see the nursery. Here's a few pictures...

Today I got asked if I was carrying twins. Yeah. I'm going to give you a tip. Never ask a pregnant woman if she's carrying twins. If she is and she wants you to know, she'll volunteer that information. I'm pretty sure you can only stick your foot in your mouth if you have to ask a pregnant woman if she's carrying twins...because more often than not, she's not carrying twins. I wasn't offended - I know I'm swollen and huge. I really understand that people just don't seem to know what to say to pregnant women, so I'm using this blog to spread the word about things not to say to a pregnant woman. You're welcome! I'll narrow it down for you. The only thing you should say to a pregnant woman: "You look great/beautiful/fantastic".

There. See? Easy.

I have a very talented, very sweet friend named Liz who used to have a business making/selling bows and headbands. She's since had a beautiful little boy and set her business aside but she pulls out her ribbons to make headbands and bows for friends who have baby girls. She recently surprised me by sending a huge bag full of her wonderful headbands. I'm SO excited to put these on my baby girl's head.

She made one for each holiday...

And every color of the rainbow!

Thank you, Liz, for another very sweet and thoughtful gift!

Work has been slightly stressful this week. I'm trying to train the woman who will fill in for me while I'm on maternity leave and it's a long story but it's a rough road. Only 2 more days! Tomorrow is my work baby shower so that should be fun!

Have a great Thursday!

You are so funny. I'm glad you took it in stride. It's amazing the things we say sometimes. I know I've had my foot in my mouth many many times!

I'm glad you like the bows! I still owe you a lavender bow though. I need to order that ribbon. . .

You are making me envious at how many showers you have had! I only had one and it was after Isaiah came!

People say the weirdest things to pregnant women. I agree...there really is nothing to say except "you look great!!"

jamie, being pregnant four (!!!) times gave me an unusually high level of experiences in the "what not to say to a pregnant woman" department. whenever asked if i was pregnant i would usually smile and say, "why yes, yes i am." and leave it at that. lol a small lie made them feel better because as you probably witnessed, they didn't know what to say when you said "no" that you were indeed NOT pregnant, right? lol so, next time, just say you ARE having twins and walk away. you're right though, most people have NO idea what to say.

i think i was on my third child, making the other two children 13 months and 2.5 years old... small children, when someone asked me if they were "all mine?" those comments always cracked me up. like i'd gone and stolen someone else's children and WANTED to get them out of THEIR house and take them to TARGET. huh?

people don't think. lol they just talk and talk and have no idea what they're saying. this is multiplied a thousand times when they're dealing with pregnant women.

you're not alone. :) i am not exempt. once, i asked a waitress "when are you due?" and well, she wasn't due, she wasn't pregnant whatsoever so i definitely felt like a boob. so, in the future if someone asks YOU that because you're a little "fluffier" than you normally are and the baby weight isn't coming off as quickly as you like, you can always say that you're still pregnant. lol or, that that "twin" baby wasn't ready to come out so they left him/her in there to cook a while longer. LOL :)

and for the record, i think you look MARVELOUS!!! :) swollen ankles and all. JUST MARVELOUS!!!

:)

That cake is too cute! Love the hair bows too and can't wait to see pictures of Amelia in them. It's amazing what people think they can say!

I had a woman walk into our office about a month ago and the topic of me being pregnant came up. She asked me when I was due. When I said the beginning of August she says, "Wow - you're going to have a big baby."

Between that and the twins comment - seriously, what are people thinking?! Haha.

Those bows are precious. Can't wait to see them on your precious Amelia!

Girl, you are the showering-ist woman I know! How many does this make now? I thought you had already had a work shower, or was that D's work? You must have all kinds of great stuff for Amelia!!! I am dying to see the nursery!!!

BTW, my cousin had twins, and she was about, ummm, four times your size and couldn't get off the couch by about 30 weeks. Seriously. When it's twins, you don't even need to ask, it's that obvious. You do look great, and really are not "huge". You're just right!

Sooooooo glad your bloodwork is ok! One less thing to worry about.

Love the bows. That's one reason I want a girl, just for cute accessories!

And for some reason I think people think that it's ok to make weird/rude comments to pregnant women. I think some people just don't think. I'm smaller than my past 2 pregnancies, and I often get "oh, you can't possibly be due that soon." Uh, yeah, I'm making up my due date for fun. Ugh!

I think you really do look great! No, I'm not just saying that. I was just as swollen as you. One of my mom's friends said (about two weeks before I was due) "you are going to have that baby any day, your lips are so swollen!" Thanks a lot. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I can't wait to see the nursery all finished. You have some great friends. I love that cake. It's just too cute!

Yes, that is one of the things I love about being here. The girls have TONS of friends to play with. Our congregation is about 120, but I would say at least half of that is kids. Seriously. There are 11 students in the girls 2-3 year old class! It's crazy!

I didn't comment before on how cute that cake was, AND what a great gift that was from Liz! I bought a bunch of bows from her a while back and the girls still wear them all the time. She makes great stuff!

Congrats on your bloodwork!

Baby showers and bows, oh my!

Great tips on what to say/not say to a pregnant lady :)

That cake is too stinkin' cute!

I think people will always say rude things. Since I was 32 when I got married, I had people constantly asking me what was wrong with me since I wasn't married yet. Yep, I had people actually say those words.

As soon as I got married, people started asking about our sex life, e.g. when are the babies going to come. I often wanted to respond by asking them when they planned to have sex next.

And now that I'm pregnant, everyone feels like it's their right to tell me what I'm having, what decisions I should make, etc.

I've decided that people will never NOT comment on my life. I'm just waiting for the first stranger to touch my baby belly.
